VaST assisted WKJ architecture + urban design in the adaptive reuse of this Richardsonian Church in the West Highlands neighborhood of the City of Denver. Built in the later half of the 1800’s Asbury Church was purchased by an individual who wanted to move his art gallery business into the lower level and maintain an active Presbyterian congregation in the main worship space.
Working with the State Historic Fund the design team transformed the lower level into a very contemporary, spacious art gallery and developed a formal entrance without detracting from the function and feel of the original church. Unfortunately the art gallery business did not perform as well as was desired but the owner soon transformed the space into a successful upscale event center for various celebrations.
